I wrote this poem the week that we were hearing that School's in England would closed. Reflective poetry.
We watched,
And we waited,
We saw but did not feel,
It seemed a world away,
It did not feel so real,
Now what we saw,
We can also feel,
We watched and were astounded,
Construction of hospitals,
Put together in just days,
Rows of Chinese people,
Filling up their bays,
We watched and we waited,
To see the world respond,
The escalating levels,
Until a pandemic was confirmed,
We saw the Europeans,
Follow in the mix,
The cases always rising,
And sadly the death toll along with it,
It crept a little nearer,
It was already at our door,
Then we watched as people panic bought,
And quickly emptied out a store,
Both viruses were here;
Greed and the other one,
But pockets of humanity,
At least the one began to overcome,
The world outside my window,
Seems just like it did before,
Signs that Spring is coming,
But the world feels different,
That’s for sure,
The daffodils and crocuses,
Wave their colours bright,
The world wakes each morning,
And the sky still fills with light,
The birds still gently sing,
Our Babbits happily loll,
The grass is grows much greener now,
As winter relinquishes its role,
The closing of the school doors,
The bells will no longer ring,
And the joy that usually awaits,
Seems to have gone into the wind,
The older and the vulnerable,
Retreat for safety in their home,
And the worlds a little stranger,
Than the one we all had known,
We are watching,
We are waiting,
For the unknown to pass,
Family and friends,
We join together,
To help us all the storm outlast.
